Publisher's Letter I n 2012, we started restaurant development + design as a comple- ment to our established magazine Foodservice Equipment & Supplies, now in its 70th year. We felt that through our work on FE&S, we had identified an underserved market of people who were specifically engaged in the design aspects of restaurant creation and the reinvigoration of existing restaurant spaces. We felt the subject matter would provide a rich vein of stories that would be fun to write about for an enthusiastic audience of designers, architects, food- service consultants, dealers and opera- tors who are passionate about their work. We envisioned a beautiful magazine, one that you might be tempted to pick up off a newsstand, chock-full of great pictures and cool projects. What we have found exceeded our expectations. We found a community of people who are willing and even anx- ious to share their successes and their war stories. At its best, rd+d has evolved into a peer-to-peer forum for comparing notes on what works and what doesn't in this highly-specialized field. Over the years we have fleshed out the rd+d offerings to include a website (rddmag.com), webcasts, two digital newsletters, an awards program, and events like Tour the Design Trends and the FED Summit. We have connected with readers through social media and helped to bring the important industry events to you when being there in per- son isn't in the cards. I hope that you enjoy this issue of rd+d and, if you do, I hope that you will share it with a friend or colleague. Also, I invite you to engage with the community by reaching out to Rebecca (rebecca@zoombagroup.com), Joe (joe@ zoombagroup.com), or me (maureen@ zoombagroup.com), to help us share your stories. Your peers are listening.
