The Habit Burger Takes on the Midwest Irvine, Calif.-based The Habit Burger Grill plans to expand to the greater Chicago area in both Illinois and Indiana via a 20-store franchise development agree- ment with Michigan-based Tremendous Brands Group, LLC. The first location is expected to open in the first half of 2019. The fast-casual better-burger chain first opened in Santa Barbara, Calif., in 1969. It now has more than 240 restaurants across 11 states and four interna- tional locations. Family-Dining Chain Debuts Brand Refresh The 40-year-old family-dining chain Shari's unveiled a reimagined design and menu in November. This is the first in a series of renovations planned for the 93- unit chain based in Beaverton, Ore. A new open floor plan design comple- ments the upgraded heritage architecture and new signage. In addition, the kitchen redesign created higher efficiency in food preparation and improved speed of service by 40 percent, according to a release. The team also designed a separate area dedi- cated to delivery orders to reduce guest confusion and improve service. Slow-selling menu items were replaced with new entrees, including a line of savory pies, melts, and open- faced sandwiches. Shari's is known for its comfort food and CEO Sam Borgese says "going into savory pies was a natural fit for the restaurant."
