Publisher's Letter 6 • r e s t a u r a n t d e v e l o p m e n t + d e s i g n • J U L Y / A U G U S T 2 0 1 9 J une 10 turned out to be a marvel- ous day for an adventure in and around Chicago as we struck out on rd+d's fourth annual Tour the Design Trends event. Along with over 60 designers, architects and consultants, we hopped on two trolleys and visited some the hottest restaurant designs in the Windy City. Check out the complete coverage in this issue starting on page 36 and on our website at rddmag.com. Each stop provided a unique look at the particular venue we were visiting with commentary provided by the people who made it happen. The perspectives ranged from those of an owner, an owner/chef, an in-house designer, brand managers and project consultants. We looked at the unique design elements of each loca- tion and delved into what made them special, from the unique building chal- lenges presented to historical preserva- tion and neighborhood considerations. Along the way, we enjoyed a sampling of the food and beverage offerings from each spot. It was truly a memorable day, and judging from the lively conversations among the range of attendees that this event brought together, perhaps the best outcome was the information shared between newly introduced peers. The survey results from the event certainly support this conclusion. There was one unanimous suggestion that came out of attendee comments: Take this event to more cities! As a result, we are currently look- ing to expand Tour of the Design Trends to go to more places. If you have an idea of where you would like to see this very special event take place, please let us know. The top suggestions from this year's attendees are Austin, Denver and New Orleans. Feel free to send us your ideas via social media or good old- fashioned email. All the best, MAUREEN SLOCUM President and Publisher maureen@zoombagroup.com La Trol-ley La
